Haven House

Haven House is situated atop a sand dune overlooking stunning Lake Michigan. This unique location inspired a house that not only takes advantage of the spectacular views but also respects the surrounding landscape. The main living spaces are elevated to provide the perfect vantage point for an uninterrupted view of the lake while minimizing the building's footprint.

Using warm materials, the house has a cozy and inviting feel. The simple form and strategic use of glass make the house appear more like a camera lens or viewing apparatus than a traditional home. We aimed to create a space that feels connected to the landscape and allows the outside to flow seamlessly through the building.

Built to accommodate two people, the house can expand when family or guests are staying. It's perfect for intimate living, and the location offers a peaceful retreat from the popular summer destination. The previous house on the site was structurally compromised and too close to the edge of the bluff. Our new design ensures that the building is more resilient and respectful of the sensitive landscape.
